T.I. V Jeezy is out…but Jeezy V Gucci is in

The Verzuz between Jeezy and Gucci Mane airs Thursday, November 11, at 8PM EST on Instagram Live and Apple Music.

Hip Hop fans were hyped for the much anticipated Verzuz between T.I. and Jeezy, a battle some fans claimed would determine who the King of the South really is. While the upcoming Verzuz between the two Hip Hop legends has been promoted on Instagram for about a month, it appears fans were even more hype to see a Jeezy v Gucci show down. And what the fans ask for, the fans get.

Most fans are aware of the years long feud between Jeezy and Gucci that started after both rappers were featured on the 2005 single, “So Icey”. The dispute arose because both rappers wanted rights to add the song to their album, however, Gucci ended up winning and the song was featured on his 2005 album Trap House. Subsequently, Jeezy was unable to use the song on his project, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, nor was Jeezy paid for the feature. This led to a series of subsequent diss tracks from the rappers aimed at each other, including one from Jeezy that put a bounty on Gucci’s chain (“Stay Strapped”).

The release of “Stay Strapped” would ultimately instigate a break-in by four armed men at a house Gucci was staying in, resulting in Gucci shooting and killing one of the men, Henry Lee Clark III a.k.a. Pookie Loc . Gucci would later end up being acquitted of charges related to the killing of Pookie Loc, due to a self defense claim.

It seems the “beef” between the two was never officially settled, and with Gucci later serving about 4 years behind bars for unrelated arrests, the opportunity never really presented itself…until now. A willingness for both rappers to share the same space NOW and do it for the fans in the upcoming Verzuz may indicate that old wounds eventually heal. Ultimately, we shall see, but it seems promising.

T.I. also commented on the upcoming event via his Instagram:

“Now THIS…. Is what the people wants to see,” he wrote. “Trap Muzik salutes y’all.”
