In an exclusive to Shadow & Act, MGM Studios released the trailer for the upcoming western film, ‘Surrounded’, starring Letitia Wright and Michael K Williams in his final cinematic performance.
About the film:
“Five years following the Civil War, freedwoman and former Buffalo Soldier Moses ‘Mo’ Washington (Wright) embarks on a journey to the West, aiming to lay claim on a gold mine—a culmination of years of labor for Mo and her community,” states the official synopsis. “In the treacherous and unforgiving landscape of 1870 America, where being an unaccompanied Black woman presents numerous dangers, Mo assumes the disguise of a man to traverse the deep frontier. However, when her stagecoach is unexpectedly attacked by a band of ruthless thieves, Mo finds herself in a precarious situation, holding the notorious outlaw Tommy Walsh captive while the remaining survivors seek assistance. This encounter sets the stage for a battle of determination, blurring the boundaries between captor and captive, as both strive to endure the harsh realities of the western terrain.”
In an exclusive statement to Shadow & Act, Wright said, “Portraying Mo Washington in ‘Surrounded’ provided me with an opportunity to evolve as an artist. I am thrilled for Western movie enthusiasts to delve into this compelling narrative.”
Joining Wright in the film are Jamie Bell and Williams. Notably, ‘Surrounded’ marks Williams’ final appearance before his unexpected passing in September 2021. The cast is further complemented by the talents of Jeffrey Donovan and Brett Gelman.
‘Andrew Pagana and Justin Thomas’ penned the script for ‘Surrounded,’ while the film’s executive producers include Aaron Ginsberg, William Green, Jason Cloth, Richard McConnell, and Suraj Maraboyina. Anthony Mandler, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Michael Berman, Derek Iger, Letitia Wright, and Ade O’Adesina serve as the film’s producers.
‘Surrounded’ will be available on digital June 20, 2023.
