Megan thee Stallion addresses social issues during SNL performance

Rapper Megan the Stallion addresses race and gender during ‘Savage” performance on SNL Saturday.

Megan the Stallion is one of the hottest rappers on the music scene right now, and, in light of recent events impacting both her personal life and Black people as a whole, the socially conscious rapper chose to speak her mind on the treatment of Black women (and men) in a dope performance of ‘Savage” this past weekend on the season premiere of SNL.

During one point in the performance, the music stopped, and the sound of gunfire could be heard from the speakers. Next, an audio segment of Malcolm X’s ‘Who Taught You To Hate” speech was played, specifically the part of the speech where Malcolm says, “Who taught you to hate the texture of your hair … the color of your skin … the shape of your nose? … Who taught you to hate yourself from the top of your head to the soles of your feet?”

Next, a quote from the Women’s March co-founder, Tamika Mallory, was played where Mallory criticizes Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron, for a lack of indictments of the police officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death.

The audio played: “Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout negroes that sold our people into slavery…”

This was followed by Megan expressing the need for protecting Black women and standing up for Black men.
