Last week, rumors began to spread across various social media platforms that controversial, YouTuber, self-proclaimed relationship guru, and image consultant, Kevin Samuels, had died suddenly from a heart attack. The rumors were eventually confirmed by close friends, family members, and a police report that was released to the public.
Once news began to spread of the YouTuber’s demise, it quickly became apparent how divided members of the Black community are about Samuels and the the legacy he has left behind.
Here are the facts as we know it:
On Thursday evening (May 5, 2022), rumors began to circulate online that Samuels had passed away earlier that day.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called to an apartment on East Paces Ferry Road NE in Atlanta on Thursday morning in response to a report about an injured person. When the police finally arrived, first responders were performing CPR on the unresponsive person who was later identified as Kevin Samuels.
A woman in the apartment, who has been identified as Ms. Ortencia Alcantara, told officers that Samuels had complained about chest pain and that she attempted to help him but he fell, after which the woman called 911, the report states.
Samuels was subsequently taken to Piedmont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a press release that it performed an autopsy and a cause and manner of death are pending. The Medical Examiner’s office listed Samuels’ age as 53.
Who is Ortencia Alcantara?
Information is minimal as it pertains to Ms. Ortencia Alcantars, but per unconfirmed reports, Ms.Alcantars had met Samuels on Wednesday evening and spent the night with him at his apartment. There has been an array of social media accounts created claiming to belong to Ms. Alcantars, however, as of publishing we have no knowledge if any conifrmed social media accounts belonging to her. The 911 call has been released, however, and the caller is believed to to be Ms. Alcantars. In the audio below, the caller is heard asking the emergency servics operator to contact the front desk of Samuels’ apartment building to request a defibrillator.
Kevin Samuels rose to popularity due to his controversial ideas concerning “high value men” and “alpha men”, and his constant verbal attacks against Black women, specifically those who didn’t look a certain way.
Since the accouncement of his death, his supporters and critics have engaged in a seemingly endless online dispute, resulting in further division within the Black community. One topic that has come up the most is in response to claims that the “high value man” himself died broke and alone. Unconfirmed claims suggest that the twice divorced YouTuber had less than $1K to his name upon his death.
