A WORD…

A word from BT Sankofa

Yall listen to celebrities tell you that you aren’t good enough. They tell you you’re poor and they don’t fuck with you. They tell you to stay in your struggle. They promote and sell exclusively to you only to turn around and invest those same profits into your oppression. The fact that this is done so consistently and easily speaks volumes on how we see ourselves and each other as a society.

We don’t want the stresses and strains of systemic oppression but we are so deeply rooted in the system that we actually idolize and desire to become the very people and things who keep us there just to not have be “stuck” anymore.

You admire them as if they beat the system when really they have become a part of it. And we try to relate to them and their personal situations that do not pertain to us, as if the slightest proximity will put us on some kind of even ground when it wont. Will there be a point where we detach from these celebrity images just as those very celebrities have detached themselves from our reality?
